The Edifice Audit ion Services Department is primarily responsible for overseeing new construction and alterations to commercial and residential buildings. Plans are reviewed and permits issued inside the restrictions of the State and Hamlet codes.

The Holding Maintenance/Burn Inspection Department responds to citizen complaints and makes regular inspections for code violations, weeds, trash, graffiti, nuisance vehicles, and snow removal.

West Milwaukee is very concerned about the negative touch of graffiti on the community. Department 14-436 of the Municipal Code requires the owner of a property to remove or cover up any graffiti harm inside 30 days. Although removal tin can be time-consuming and create a financial burden, studies accept shown that failure to encompass upward graffiti in a timely fashion will mostly result in an "explosion" of boosted graffiti in the surrounding area. Milwaukee Canton Abode Repair Program. The Milwaukee County Housing Division provides a Dwelling house Repair programme funded past federal CDBG and Dwelling funds by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in suburban Canton communities excluding the Cities of West Allis and Milwaukee. The program offers 0% involvement loans to income-qualified homeowners to make necessary repairs, right code violations, and receive accessibility modifications. Staff assists clients by creating a detailed scope of piece of work and works with individual contractors to receive bids for the piece of work to be done. Homeowner(s) review bids received and select a contractor from toll reasonable bids. Once a contractor is selected, the Homeowner(s) will sign a Loan Understanding and Promissory Note with the County. The loan is secured by a Lien on the owner's real estate. The Canton will facilitate an agreement with the contractor for the work to be completed per the telescopic. After the project is completed, the County pays contractors from loan funds.
